Create A Retreat

Thinking of creating your own retreat but not sure how to start?

A lot of people think that Sugar Ridge is all about yoga and meditation. Although we are certainly passionate about both activities, our motto is: “As long as it’s legal, do whatever you please.”

We’ve hosted non-profit retreats, corporate team-building retreats, fundraisers for charities, African Youth initiation groups, spiritual groups, and plenty of yoga and meditation retreats. We will cater to the needs of your group regardless of what you’re doing while you’re here. We observe silence if you do, and we’re happy to dance with you too!

We have a number of resources including fun or therapeutic activities. We are affiliated with many talented facilitators including: yoga/meditation teachers, outdoor educators, psychotherapists, massage therapists, drumming facilitators, origami, cooking instructors and much more. We can help you plan events and schedule your time together.

Sugar Ridge Retreat Centre is located only 90 minutes north of Toronto, close to Midland, Ontario. With 150 acres of lush meadows, majestic forests and rolling hills, Sugar Ridge is an ideal setting for any retreat. Enjoy stunning views of the Wye Marsh and Georgian Bay year-round while hiking the trails of the property as you reconnect with nature and its beauty at Sugar Ridge.

Our cozy cabin accommodations are nestled in the woods and offer a retreat all on their own! Sugar Ridge’s fully accessible retreat centre was designed to accommodate the needs of participants and facilitators, and two of our cabins are also fully accessible. Cabin beds are comfortable, the duvets are snuggly, and each cabin has it’s own unique view of the forest. The studio is comfortable for 25-30 people for yoga or up to 50 people for sitting meditation or workshops and meetings. Sugar Ridge Retreat Centre features a grand hall studio, a dining hall, a lounge with double sided fireplace, and a large commercial kitchen serving up yummy, organic vegetarian meals.

We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have or to provide a quote for your group. Just call us for any additional information or just to say hi and get a sense of what we’re all about.

We can help you plan for a day, weekend, week or a month. Let us help you create the retreat that best suits your needs!

Sugar Ridge is registered with TICO (Reg # 50024388) and can therefore manage your registrations to ensure that your retreat is compliant with the Travel Industry Council of Ontario rules and regulations.

We look forward to hosting your retreat at Sugar Ridge!

YOGA TEACHERS

If you are a yoga teacher and planning your first retreat we can help you with scheduling your sessions and advertising the event.

If you’re a seasoned retreat facilitator, just let us know how we can help. Talk to the Sugar Ridge team about unique ideas on something different to add to the experience.

We only have one group using the retreat centre at a time so there is more intimacy for your group and an opportunity for a deeper sharing.

“What can I say to describe our experience up at Sugar Ridge? There are not many retreat centres in Ontario that can support our requirements for the Moksha Yoga Level 2 Teacher Training, and even fewer that meet our expectations for eco-friendliness.  Liz and her family are not only eco-friendly, but people-friendly too, and showed us the most gracious and generous hospitality.  Oh, and the food…The food was unbelievably nourishing and yummy – it meant a lot to us that the food used was organic where possible and vegetarian, and added to our experience greatly.

What else?  Beautiful grounds to hike through or practice walking meditation, cozy, cozy cabins to retreat to after a day of study and fun, and did I mention yummy food?!?!

Again, we are quite particular as to where we have our teacher training programs, and we couldn’t have been more happy with Sugar Ridge.”

Ted Grand, Yoga teacher and creator of Moksha Yoga

MEDITATION TEACHERS

The centre was designed with meditation in mind.  You will find the cabins comfortable yet absent of distractions.  If you are in silence so are the staff here.  We will cater meals according to your needs for sitting.

To get started with your planning give us a call at 866-609-1793 or email [email protected]

MEAL PLANNING

The group facilitator/teacher can determine the meal schedule within the following guidelines:
Breakfast served no earlier than 6:30am and dinner no later than 6:30 pm.
A menu for your retreat will be discussed with you ahead of time to ensure your needs are met.

See a delicious sample menu here.

We will cater to any dietary restrictions which may apply to the group – e.g. kosher, vegan, gluten-free.

We ask to be notified of any individual dietary concerns a week before the groups arrival.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?

Generally it’s a good idea to call us at least six months ahead of the date you want, a year is even better.  Call us at 866-609-1793 or email [email protected] to find out the dates we can accommodate for you!

We are open all four seasons and each season offers its own unique beauty, which you can incorporate into your event.

If you want to do something different consider a winter retreat! We can provide talented facilitators and all equipment needed for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.  Our cabins are snug and warm, and the winter duvets keep you cozy.  The snow provides a beautiful backdrop to anything you can imagine!
