Yoga Beyond the Poses: A 5-night Retreat

Sunday, February 27 – Friday, March 4, 2022

This week is an opportunity to immerse in the art of living your yoga and coming home to your true nature. This 5-night getaway offers the experience of stepping away from the demands of daily routine to be curious and introspective as you deepen your knowledge & understanding of yoga and self through wisdom, compassion & community.

Yoga is much more than a physical exercise practice and traditionally it is a philosophy for life.  The focus of this retreat is to explore the classical roots of Yoga by delving more deeply into what is known as “the 8 Limbs of Yoga” (Yamas/External Disciplines, Niyamas/Internal Disciplines, Asana/Posture, Pranayama/Breath Control, Pratyahara/ Withdrawal of Senses, Dharana/ Concentration, Dhyana/ Meditation, Samadhi/Union) through the lens of a contemporary Western lifestyle.

You will leave this immersion with a richer awareness of what ‘living your yoga’ looks like, and feels like, to you as a unique individual, and with tools to practically apply to everyday living. In addition to theoretical learnings, we will discover insights within the practice of the asanas/poses. This form of self-study supports a more intimate awareness of your own physical body in postural expression, increasing your autonomous ability to support your individual needs & limitations on and off of the mat.

No experience with yoga or meditation is necessary.  All bodies are welcome – no level of physical fitness is required.  You will do what serves your body, your mind, your soul.  Everything offered is optional:)

Meet Your Guide for the Week

Jenny Jackson has been immersed in Movement Education for more than 20 years. Jenny is a seeker of inner well-being, and she consciously aligns herself living with an open mind, an open heart and embodies joy & vitality which is reflected in her welcoming & inclusive style of instruction. She teaches with a strong anatomical influence while still deeply honouring the classical roots of yoga. Jenny believes that feeling vital and in harmony with others & within our own selves is the primary goal (in life and in our bodies), and practice should reflect this.

Expect well-planned, responsible, creative & intuitive instruction within Jenny’s classes and retreats. Trust that your needs will be supported and a sense of inclusion & community will always be a focus. Jenny takes her offerings (but not herself) very seriously, so you can relax and be yourself as she leads with humour and vulnerability.

Jenny is a certified and experienced schoolteacher, yoga teacher, personal trainer, group fitness coach, and Health & Wellness coach. She is a cancer survivor, mom of 3 and bilingual in English and French. She is the founder of Body Balanced Wellness, which offers registered Yoga Teacher Training Programs, both online & in person.
